This hotel was built in 1960 on the original site of one of the city's most famous 19th-century hotels-the St. Louis was the center of Creole social life circa 1850. A white stucco exterior and lacy iron balconies give the building the image of age, as do the chandeliers, gilt mirrors and tons of marble. Overall, though, this place has a 21st-century feel.
The paintings in the lobby, hallways and rooms are original, done mostly by local artists. On the seven floors there are 346 rooms, 15 suites, a penthouse, four restaurants and a luxurious rooftop pool. The look of the guest rooms is traditional, with clean, contemporary lines and colors. Some are quite small. Multiple meeting rooms and a business center accommodate corporate gatherings and conferences.
