Opened in January 2000, Gastwerk is Europe's first loft - style hotel. The hotel is situated in four kilometers from the city of Hamburg, in a preserved quarter with apartments, commerce, a large park, a lake and a fitness center. In a few minutes you’ll walk from here to the lively center of Ottensen with its many restaurants, pubs, galleries, boutiques and cinemas in the Zeisehalls.
Located in a former municipal gasworks building, the name alludes to both the previous and present function of the property. "Gastwerk" meaning "guestwork" is Hamburg's first design hotel. North German style is embodied here with an open fireplace and quiet places to read, write, relax by. Oversized chairs, light natural colors and soothing textures soften the industrial structure, giving its once purely functional form new life. The hotel offers 135 comfortable rooms, banquet facilities, meeting rooms, laundry, restaurant, coffee shop, bar, lounge, parking, health club, whirlpool, sauna, solarium, SPA, handicap facilities.
