US most ecological cities
American magazine Popular Science has
published its list of the most ecological cities in the US. The top three are Portland
(Oregon), San
Francisco (California) and Boston
(Massachusetts). The rating is based on such parameters as the amount of the
transport using alternative sources of energy, the quality of air, ecological
building technologies, green areas and “eco-consciousness” of the
citizens.
Portland received 23.1 points (30 points – maximum), San
Francisco is only one tenth point behind and Boston gathered 22.7 points.
Chicago is
only the ninth in the list with its 21.1 points, but it can boast the largest
area of the gardens and parks. New York is
just the 18th, but holds the leadership in the filed of eco transport. The last
(among 50 cities included in the survey) is Greensboro (North Carolina) with
only 10 points.
