Tuscany – the pet-friendliest city
Starting this June pets will be allowed to enter Tuscan restaurants, museums,
galleries, cinemas, theatres and beaches. The regulation is the initiative of
the Greens, whose leader, Fabio Roggiolani, comments that it will knock-down the
barriers separating Man and his best friends. Many Tuscans agree with the idea,
which seems to be reasonable when we speak about fighting discrimination and
cruelty against pets.
To guarantee public safety, pets must have a veterinary health certificate
and be muzzled, if necessary. At the same time, some public places, like the
Teatro del Maggio Musicale, will still ban pets, out of common sense.
In theory, the regulation applies to all domestic animals. Practically, this
will mainly refer to dogs. Some find the law absurd, for instance Marcella
Amadio, a centre-right regional councillor, expresses her concern about
allergies. Still, similar laws might be introduced in other parts of Italy,
including Rome.
