Eiffel Tower’s public reception area to be redesigned
Serero Architects has won a competition to redesign and thus extend the
Eiffel Tower’s (Paris) public reception area. The new flower-looking deck will
be temporarily bolted to the slab thus expanding the territory of the exhisting
platform on the third floor from 280 to 580 square meters. Thanks to this the
tower will accept up to 1700 visitors per hour. Currently people have to wait 30
minutes to 1 hour to get to the tower’s public reception. The new structure will
help increase the quality of the access of the public.
In 2009 the Eiffel Tower celebrates its
120th anniversary. The inflow of tourists is
expected. Still, it is hard to predict what reaction the new project will bring.
One fact that stands for this extension is that it will be easily removed
(no new support structure is needed).
