Rock-looking library in Medellin
The new Biblioteca Parque España in Medellin, Colombia is an unusual
rock-looking library, which offers picturesque views of Santo-Domingo district.
The architect Giancarlo Mazzanti wanted to preserve the historic looks of the
city, so the modern cultural centre was designed in the form of three alien rock
formations.
The buildings are seen from any point of Medellin and, as spectators
state, look different depending on time of the day and the observation angle.
They are made of reinforced steel, covered with black slate and are connected by
a ground-level platform. The complex contains a library, a community and a
cultural cente, pedagogic areas and viewpoint platforms. It occupies a 4
thousand sq.m. territory and is accessible by a cable car.
