“Butterfly World” in Britain
A spectacular dome for butterflies will appear in Britain. The
“Butterfly World” will become a home for about 100,000 butterflies and will cost
£25 million. The site is located near St Albans in Hertfordshire, north-west of
London.
The 100 meter translucent dome is set to open in June 2009, whereas the
whole project will be completed by 2011. Butterflies will fly around freely, so
visitors will be able to observe them in their natural habitats.
The project is the initiative of the property developer and
entomologist Clive Farrell, who has already built butterfly houses in Florida
and Switzerland. He is also the co-owner of the Butterfly World in
Stratford-upon-Avon. The “Butterfly World” is expected to attract up to 1 mln
visitors every year. It will become a world-class visitor centre also drawing
attention to conservation and research issues.
