First women-only hotel in Saudi Arabia
The first women-only hotel in Saudi Arabia was recently opened in
the country’s capital, Riyadh. According to local Saudi Arabian rules, prior to
2008 a woman could not enter a hotel without a chaperon or mahram (a husband,
father etc.). At the new Luthan Hotel & Spa, women can forget about these
regulations.
The women-only hotel offers 25 rooms, several conference halls
and a spa-club with a great choice of fitness and wellness services. The hotel
is owned by business ladies and Saudi princesses and is absolutely women-run.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, secretary-general of the Supreme Commission for
Tourism, who opened the hotel, expressed his hopes for the similar hotels to
appear in the country in the nearest future. According to Sultan bin Salman,
this will “encourage women to take part in the development
process.”
