Terminal 3 for Beijings Capital International Airport
The capital of China soon opens
Terminal 3 of Beijing’s Capital International Airport. Test flights will take
place February 29th. Recently, the press was allowed to enter the
airport’s territory.
The building was designed by British architect Lord Norman Foster, construction took 4 years. The new
terminal is capable of carrying 82 million passengers annually. This upgrade is
in preparation for a passenger surge during the Beijing 2008 Olympic
Games. The new terminal has a floor area approximately 1 million square meters
big, 125 additional parking bays, affiliated buildings, areas for private planes
and a new cargo zone. Terminal 3 will become the largest airport building in the world. The
terminal will be used by such airlines as: British Airways, Qatar Airways,
Qantas Airways, Sichuan Airlines and El Al Israel Airlines.
