Food and Fun festival in Reykjavik
These days Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, hosts a culinary festival Food
and Fun, which started Ferbuary 20th with a press conference at the
Nordic House and will include a 5-day competition (the competition kicks off
February 24th). Chefs from France, Norway, Russia, United States,
United Kingdom, Spain and Italy will prepare Nordic dishes, which visitors to
restaurants around the city are welcomed to try. Entertainment programme is also
provided.
The trick is, even though each chef is a true culinary virtuoso, none of them
have ever prepared Icelandic dishes. First, they will get their instructions and
spend no more than 30 minutes to buy all the necessary products. Only Icelandic
ingredients are allowed. Chefs must spend no more than 3 hours on preparation of
the dishes. Then judges will choose the winner.
The festival is an excellent chance to try Icelandic cuisine, which mainly
consists of fish and marine products. There are also dishes prepared of mutton.
Most of them originate from the Medieval so be prepared for something unusual.
