New projects for Cuba
The ministry of tourism of Cuba has several major projects planned to attract
a larger number of tourists to the country’s capital, Havana. During his speech
at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Manuel Marrero Cruz, the
minister of tourism, commented that Cuba has more than sunny beaches only. Havana
is a travel destination which will surely be a success.
The first project is the museum of history in the centre of Havana, which
would become a part of the major plan to create a “commercial zone of reference”
in the city, with Galiano Street as its nerve centre.
The city’s renowned seaside highway, the Malecón, will also be transformed to
conform to modern standards and will get leisure and entertainment zones. A
number of tourist buses will also appear in Havana. They will help city guests
observe the city from its different sides. This year Cuba is likely to attract
about 2,5 million visitors.
