United Airlines will charge a fee for extra bags
United Airlines will charge a fee for extra bags
for those who travel on nonrefundable domestic economy tickets. Starting May
5th passengers who buy tickets February 6th and later will carry only one bag for free. The
second bag will cost $25 whereas a fee for three bags will be $125. Each piece
of luggage must weigh no more than 23 kilos.
Passengers who
have Premier status or higher in the airline’s Mileage Plus frequent flier program
will still be allowed to carry two bags for free. Those who have Premier Executive
or Star Alliance Gold status can bring three bags free of charge. This way,
the company plans to offset rising fuel costs. New rules will be effective at
internal flights within the USA, as well as flights to Canada, Puerto-Rico and US Virgin Islands.
