Ice church in Romania
In 2008 Romanian-born German businessman Arnold Klingeis
once again built an ice church in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The
church is located by Lake Balea and is very popular with tourists, many of whom
are eager to organize their wedding and christening ceremonies in the church. On
the other side, the great amount of candles lit during the events caused the
thawing of the inside of the building, so visitors were asked not to light them
any more.
The first
ice hotel was built in Romania in 2005 and contained 8 rooms. Thanks to its
great popularity the amount of rooms was increased the following year. Nowadays
visitors to the church can stay at a 12-room ice hotel next door.
