Starwood will build the first eco-friendly hotel in Washington DC
Starwood Capital Group have signed an agreement with
Perseus Realty L.L.C. to build the first luxury eco-friendly hotel in Washington DC. The hotel will be one of the first Starwood properties under the new “1
hotels” brand and will offer its guests 180 rooms. The company announced
construction of “1” hotels in four American cities: Seattle, New York, Atlanta and
Washington. The hotel in Seattle will be opened in 2009, followed by the opening
of the rest of hotels in 2010.
Just like the rest of the “1” properties, the hotel in
Washington will be LEED-certified (the certificate for Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design building). This certification system helps evaluate
buildings from the point of “environmental sustainability”.
