Electronic translation devises in Madrid taxis
In the end of November several Madrid taxis will be
equipped with electronic translation devices, which will help local taxi drivers
understand what foreign travelers say. The devise will be provided with a memory
for 400 thousand words and phrases on 12 different languages, including:
Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, German, English,
French, Italian and Spanish.
The “translator” will be equipped with two microphones: one for the
driver, the second for the passenger. With the help of the microphones, the
system will identify the speech. The driver will hear the translation through
his loud speaker. Plus to this, the devise will operate the following functions:
voice recording, games, calculator, currency converter and even an MP3 player.
Only 20 cabs will be equipped with the devise for a start, and if the system
proves to be a success, the translator will appear in the rest of cars.
